Sofia Boutique Hotel, Danang review

We had only 2 nights in Danang and were looking for a hotel close to the My Khe beach. We love spending time on the beach. Our itinerary this time did not allow much beach time, therefore wanted to make the best of what we had. Sofia boutique hotel in Danang was close to the beach and had very good reviews on TripAdvisor. The unfavourable weather made it difficult to do any beach activity. But we enjoyed our short stay at the hotel.

Location of Sofia Boutique Hotel, Danang:

The hotel is about a km from My Khe Beach. We checked a number of hotels in the area before booking and realized that most of them did not have direct beach access. Some of them had beach view from the top floors, but the reviews were mixed. We had shortlisted Adamo Hotel on My Khe Beach and Sofia boutique hotel.  Adamo hotel did not have any triple room with seaview and we decided to go with Sofia Boutique hotel. We did see Adamo hotel and the location was better than Sofia boutique for sure.

Sofia Boutique is in the busy street with most of the necessities closeby.

Rooms:

We were in a family room with two king beds. There was a small balcony overlooking the main road. The room had a flat screen TV, safe, AC, a pedestal fan, minibar, enough storage space and a kettle. Bathroom had a glass shower, hair dryer and rest of the toiletries.

Note that if you are a tea/coffee person, carry some milk powder with you. Similar to Hanoi Antique Legend Hotel, we could not find milk powder sachet here too. There are tea/coffee sachets and sugar; but apparently Vietnamese do not use milk in the tea.

Booking: Sofia Boutique hotel is available for booking on all major OTAs. The hotel does not have a website (as on January 2019). We booked through booking.com.

Amenities:

Sofia boutique hotel has free wifi and a travel desk. We booked our airport pickup through the hotel for 10 USD. They also have umbrellas that they offer to their guests if required.

We booked a car through them for our trip to Bana Hills and to Hoi An and the rates were very reasonable.

  • Car to Bana Hills and back (small car for approx 8 hrs): 70000 VND
  • Car to Hoi An, drop to the airport in the evening (small car for approx 8 hrs): 80000 VND

We read a number of posts about tourists being cheated by taxi drivers in Vietnam and therefore preferred to book directly through the hotel. The drivers in both cases were very good, though they did not know English. We used Google Translate to communicate with both of them 🙂

Restaurant at Sofia Boutique Hotel:

Breakfast is included in the booking and the restaurant is located in the ground floor. Breakfast is buffet style with a mix of continental and Vietnamese dishes. The vegetarian section comprised of variety of breads, fruits, juice and desserts. I tried the veg fried rice (with egg) and few other egg dishes and everything was very good.

They have elaborate menu for lunch and dinner. They also had a vegetarian section in the menu, but we didn’t find it very appetising. We instead went to Maharaja Indian restaurant few hundred mts away.

Staff and Service:

The staff at Sofia Boutique hotel is outstanding. They are always at the reception smiling and eager to help in whatever way they can. They even had suggestions of some veg and Indian restaurants for us in Danang and Hoi An.

I had informed the staff in advance that we were celebrating our son’s birthday in Danang. They had a small cake ready in the evening after we came back from Bana hills. The room was also decorated with balloons!

We were very happy with the personal touch the hotel staff brought. I will highly recommend Sofia Boutique hotel to anyone visiting Danang and looking for budget accommodation with a great service!

  1. Thanks a lot priyanka.
last email id has a typo.
2 more things- i see there are multiple options for bana hills like with golden bridge, etc. Which one would be the best?
For HoiAn can you please share some thoughts.

    1. Hi Prabin,

The price of the ticket that I mentioned includes Golden Bridge and the cable car ride. You should get the all inclusive ticket.
Reg Hoi An: Its 1.5 hrs drive from Danang. Its a beautiful heritage city and I will recommend you stay atleast overnight if you haven’t booked accommodations yet. Hoi An has lantern festival once every month and it falls on 16th June this year. The town is lighted with lanterns in the night and there are cultural shows etc on that night. If you happen to be in Hoi An on that day, it would be a great experience.

  2. Hi priyanka,Can you please let me know the details of tickets/ tour of bana hills and also how you made hanoi cruise booking. It will help me. Am planning a trip in june following your blog line by line 🙂 . Thanks a lot for writing and inspiring us to travel with these blogs.

    1. Hi Prabin,

Tickets to Bana hill is 700,000 VND per adult and 550,000 per child. You can either buy these at the ticket counter or ask your driver to help you purchase them from one of the many agent in Danang on the way to BaNa hills. You can also buy them in advance from Klook at a discount (https://www.klook.com/en-IN/activity/13283-ba-na-hills-ticket-da-nang/).

We booked Halong Bay cruise directly through the company on http://halonglavendercruises.com/. They are very responsive on chat/mail too and you can let them know you are looking for a cruise with pickup/drop to Hanoi. You can bargain and ensure you do not pay extra for the pickup/drop.

June is a peak time in Vietnam and make sure you do all the bookings soon.

      Enjoy your trip:)

        1. Hi Prabin,

You may want to go to Hoi An directly from the airport so you can spend more time there. If you are landing at 10am and going to Hoi An in the afternoon, there is no point going to the hotel first.Pls mail the hotel to check the current cab rates; in case there is any difference because its peak season now.
You do not need any tour guide in Hoi An. But yes ticket is required for some of the attractions. The prices are very nominal though. Let me try to write a blog post on Hoi An in a few days 🙂
