A trip to Bali is not complete without visit to its temples. Its infact impossible because of the sheer number of temples Bali has 🙂 It is estimated that Bali has more than 10,000 temples and I am not surprised. Temples can be found at every nook and corner of this island. Majority of the Bali population follows Balinese Hinduism; and one can see beautiful Hindu temples throughout the island. Their architecture is unique and temples look magnificent.
During our one week stay in Bali, we were able to cover some of their temples:
Taman Ayun Temple
Also called the Royal Palace temple; this temple is inside a moat. I would recommend a visit for the architecture.
Entrance Fee: 20000 IDR/ adult. Our 5 yr old son was not charged. (as on May 2016)
Time required for visit: 45mins – 1.5hrs
Pura Ulun Danu Temple
This is the famous temple which figures in most of the Bali ads. And it deserves to be there. Its quite big and will require close to 2 hrs for leisurely visit.
Entrance fee: 30000 IDR/ adult and 15000 IDR/ child.
Time required for visit: 2-3 hr
Tanah Lot Temple
This temple on the north west is famous for its sunset. Unfortunately for us, we went on a day it was cloudy. And since we were little late, we could not get the best pics too. Its inside the sea and one can get to the entrance of the temple when its low tide. Visitors not allowed inside the temple though.
Entrance fee: 30000 IDR / adults. Child was not charged.
Duration of visit: One can easily spend 2 hrs here. Reach before sunset to get the best view.
Uluwatu Temple
Uluwatu temple is situated on a cliff in south west Bali and is known for its beautiful sunset and Kecak dance. We again missed the sunset though because of clouds. We had seen Kecak dance performance on youtube and were not too enthusiastic about it. It was too loud for our taste so we did not go for it. It has a separate ticket and the performance begins around 5:15pm.
Entrance ticket: 30000 IDR per adult. Kid not charged.
Duration of the visit: You can spend 2 hrs clicking photos of the temple from various cliffs. Reach well before sunset. Kecak dance performance is for about an hour.
There are other famous temples in Bali like Monkey temple and Besakih temple; but we did not have enough time to cover all of them. We would have loved to see sunset from the cliffs of Uluwatu temple or Tanah Lot; maybe next time 😀
